When a jealous scholar failed to win over Milarepa in debate and threw dirt at the Jetsun's face, Rechungpa picked up a stick and thought it best to beat him up. Milarepa sung this profound song restraining Rechungpa from attacking the scholar.
During the Sixteen Years Anniversary feast held at Kamalashila, Schloss Wachendorf 23 September 1993, this song was sung for the very first time.
