Homage from « The fundamental wisdom of the Middle Way », singing of Milarepa's supplication to the Guru, rising Bodhicitta...
Actual teaching begins at : 0:04:25
End of the recording : 1:30:00 in the middle of a sentence. BUT : Talk 3 continues on CD 4 !! From 0:00:03 until 0:04:21
0:04:52 The « Heart of Wisdom Sutra » teaches about the emptiness of 5 topics (book page 194)
1) the 5 aggregats
2) the 12 sources of consciousness
3) the 18 potentials
4) the 12 links of dependant arising
5) the 4 noble truths
0:22:39 the translator recites 1 time a quote from Nagarjuna's « examination of causes and conditions » (appendix of the book, page 183)
« Not from self not from other not from both nor without cause
things do not arise at any place at any time »
0:31:13 quote Milarepa « E ma, the phenomena, the 3 realms of samasara, while not existing they appear, how incredibly amazing »
0:34:03 quote Shantideva (« Guide to the Bodhisattva's conduct »)
« If suffering existed in genuine reality, who would even know the name « happiness »...
0:34:58 quote from Milarepa's song « Three kinds of confidence in genuine reality » (S.o.R. Page 139, 2nd verse)
« I've gained confidence in everything as equal
This swept away my taking grief and happiness as two
exposed the ups and downs of feeling as false
and cut believing that there are some to have and some to shun »..
Maybe interesting for Menla Group :
0:36:55 mention of Dampa Sangye's practise called » The genuine Dharma that dissolves suffering »
0:39:15 quote from Milarepa's song « Eighteen kinds of yogic joys » (S.o.R. Page 35)
« The suffering being bliss feels so good
that even feeling bad feels good »
0:41:32 0:43:23 quote from the yogi Gyalwa (?) Götsangpa's song « The eight cases of basic goodness not to be shun » (three of which relate directly to illness )
These three are :
« The illness is not to be shunned because it's basicly good
The kleshas related to illness are not to be shunned because they are basicly good
And suffering is not to be shunned because it's basicly good. »
In the verses about suffering Gotsangpa sings :
« And though your whole life long is plagued by the torments of falling ill
don't think that's bad, don't plan to get around it
Then it will be your badge, your proof of concuct of equal taste
Your suffering is not to be shunned, it's basicly good »
And about chronic illness :
« Don't see it as a fault,
don't see it as an obstacle or plan to get rid of it
Meditate on it's true nature
When you do that then it will be a beautiful ornament
of your realization of equal taste »
0:50:12 back to Nagarjauna's text as well as the « Heart of Wisdom » Sutra
1:01:59 the translator recites together with the audience the second paragraph of the Sutra (book page 194) :
« Thus Shariputra all phenomena are emptiness
They have no characteristics.
They have no characteristics,
no birth, no cessation,
no stains, no freedom from stains,
no decrease and no increase »
1:02:11 – 1:09:17 Recitation of Mila's entire « Authentic portrait of the Middle Way » (book, page 205/ S.o.R. Page 18)
After commentaries on the song Rinpoche compares it with the « Heart of Wisdom » Sutra
1:28:42 quote Madjik Labdrön :
« Leave your body as a corpse
Leave it without any owner
leave your mi(nd)....(like space)
CD 3 and talk 3 stop here in the middle of the word « mind ». The talk continues on CD 4 from 0:00:03 – 0:04:21
Rinpoche took overtime being mistaken about the schedule. Laughing he says : « Making mistake after mistake we walk the unmistaken path »
