In the Summer of 1991, Rinpoche taught the preliminaries as well as the shamatha and vipashyanā sections from the Ocean of Definitive Meaning.

Rinpoche taught the course every morning, alternating instruction in shamatha and vipashyanā day after day, in order to accommodate the many students who could not be present for the entire program.

In the afternoons, Rinpoche taught a course on view, which you are encouraged to listen to, since it was not unusual for Rinpoche to elaborate in the course on view a point to which he had alluded only briefly in the course on mahāmudrā. You find these teachings in the category "Treasury of Knowledge", TOK 7.2 and 6.3.

Rinpoche restricted the mahāmudrā teachings to students, who had completed the Preliminary Practices, the ngöndro, and counseled all to review these teachings by watching and listening to them in the order that they were given.
