In Bouddha in 1987, Rinpoche taught this extraordinary treasure, which was hidden by Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal and extracted by Lobponma Kunga Bum in the 14th century at the cave called Clear Light Crystal Cave at Drayang Dzong. Lobponma Kunga་Bum is one of two female tertöns in the Nyingma lineage.

The third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje, received instruction in dzogchen from the great vidyādhara Kumārādza and brought the teachings into his own experience. As a result of his practice, he had an extraordinary vision in which he met the great master Vimalamitra face to face, who then dissolved into his forehead. At that point, the view, meditation, conduct, and fruition of dzogchen completely and effortlessly arose in Rangjung Dorje. As a result, he was able to draw the Karma Nyingthik ཀརྨ་སྙིང་ཏིག as a mind treasure from the expanse of space itself.
Along with Gradual Path of the Wisdom Essence and Complete Liberation of the Three Realms, this text is extremely important in the practice of dzogchen for the Karma Kagyü lineage.
Rinpoche divided the text into 4 sections and gave preparatory classes for the translators and senior students to ask questions.

The famed Wisdom Guru ཡེ་ཤེས་བླ་མ། is a Manual of Instruction in Dzogchen practice written by Rigzin Jikme Lingpa and presents primarily the instruction for Cutting Through ཁྲེགས་ཆོད༏ and Crossing Over ཐོད་རྒལ།
At the Laughing Vajra seminar at Karmê Chöling 1996, Rinpoche explained the section from this text describing the four ways in which Crossing Over is superior to Cutting Through and then opens up for questions and answers.
