To think it is single, the cause or the one who is conscious, / The creator, or one who wields the sovereign control, / Who plays the role of being the principal figure, / Is eternal, the ground of affliction and purification, / That this is who is performing the yogic practice, / That this is who is not free but gains liberation – / These are the views that are entertained about self, / [These are the ways we think there is a self. 

Conceptualization, their content – specific thoughts, / And their actual nature relate to all of these.

First there are many which then are grouped together / And then can be classified according to function.

Considered other is that with the seed-like force / Which enables an act of perception, perceived and perceiver.
