  Copenhagen, Denmark, 16-19 August 1977

  In 1977, when H.H. 16th Karmapa came to Copenhagen, H.E. 3rd. Jamgon Rinpoche taught Seven Points of Mindtraining and Khen Rinpoche offered 3 talks on chapter 1 of the Jewel Ornament of Liberation: The Cause, Tathagagarbha.

  In three extraordinarily beautiful teachings, Rinpoche explains in great detail about mind, drills the audience in the instructions and guides them in how to realize that this concerns their own mind. These three teachings by Rinpoche are the oldest recordings we have.

  In talk 3, the recordist begins to cut the translation except for into German.

  Bodhichitta Instructions: La Poujade, February - August 1978

  Due to shortage of cassette tapes back in 1978, the students tried to save as much tape as possible, they shared their tapes and even re-recorded over some.

  These recordings nevertheless show with tremendous clarity Rinpoche's immense kindness towards his new students who were not only unfamiliar with the Tibetan language but also with dharma.

  April 1979, February 1980 and Summer 1980

  During the month of April 1979 and February 1980 in Athens as well as July-August 1980 in Brussels Rinpoche taught word-by-word Gampopa's Lamrim text with the purpose of his students translating it into their respective languages.

  The talks you find here are a mix of teachings given at these two places, since it has not been possible to fully separate the specific year and the two places in the recordings.

  • In Athens 1980 Rinpoche mainly teaches the chapters on Meditative Concentration and Prajna section by section and has his friend, Acharya Tenpa Negi, translate it into English.
  • In Brussels 1980, Rinpoche goes through many of the other chapters.

  In the collection from April 1979, there are 5 talks on the beginning chapters as well as additional talks on shamatha, on the Three Rare and Supreme Ones based on Maitreya's Buddha Nature and on Gampopa's meeting with Jetsun Milarepa.

  The three latter additional talks are probably from Brussels and are included here as guided meditations by Rinpoche.
